Slot Headstocks vs Solid

Slot Headstocks vs Solid

Hey All!

Just a quick tidbit of reso goodness: What's the deal with slot headstocks?

First off - they aren't harder to tune than a standard headstock.  Poke the string through the hole, use about three fingers of slack and tighten to pitch.   They are actually easier to tune while in the playing position because you dont have to twist your hand under to tune the treble strings.

It's also purely aesthetic. I know some guitar makers will say "slot headstocks have greater break angles so the sustain will increase!" Lies. Ok... it's not a LIE... but it's one of those things that gets tossed out there like it matters when it doesn't at all.  A badly cut nut will buzz.

All Mule headstocks are slotted.   They fit the aesthetic better.
