Mavis for Jeff Tweedy

Mavis for Jeff Tweedy

Mavis for Jeff Tweedy of Wilco. When I was starting out in the basement room of a rented house with 6 1/2’ ceilings and one small window I made list. The list was the players I loved that I thought would also love these resonators. Of course the surprise was on me - I’ve met so many more than my list. But Jeff was on that list, and is one of the last three left who don’t have a Mule to accompany them on their work. Getting that email was so exciting and felt like an honor and ... inevitable. Being a part of the work of musicians, seeing them go to that place of inspirational sound and put something new into the world for people to love is my greatest joy. I’m naturally self-doubting, what one of my good friends kindly calls “Matt Eich’s Eternal Re-evaluation”. But the confidence that comes from the pile of work, the decisions, the reevaluation, is amazing. It allows me to enjoy these moments more fully than ever. To know that my work will benefit my heroes is a strange and beautiful thing to say.
