Resonator strings

Resonator strings

Resonator guitars are just guitars. We are in a shift where people are seeing them as the music tools they are - different sounds create different musical choices. No high set ups suitable only for the 12 feet wiggle. You don’t need an animal stage name to play one. (If you do, that’s all good too.). But if your string pack says “Resonator” on it, just know that string companies are also sorting through this new reso era as well. Its less about the type of resonator and more about the tunings (and therefore tension) used. Here’s the recommended string gauges for tunings used. Your pack of strings might be 16’s and say “Resonator” but that doesn’t mean that if you have a biscuit, tricone, or spider bridge resonator you can put them on and tune to whatever you want with no implications or issues. Are these unbreakable rules? There are no unbreakable rules. But everything costs something, so respect the trade offs.
